There are an estimated 100 million to 140 million girls and women who have been subjected to the barbaric practice of FGM. Currently, about 3 million girls, the majority under 15 years of age, undergo the procedure every year. The procedure involves cutting off the clitoris and sometimes sewing the opening of the vagina shut. Often performed with unsterilized razors and no anesthesia, FGM is excruciatingly painful. Not only do women experience intense bleeding, dangerous infections, and possibly infertility—they also carry emotional scars that may never heal.

Amirah's Voice has been created to place the needs of girls and women who mae experienced FGM, are at risk of undergoing FGM, who are fleeing their current living situation because they are in opposition to the practice of FGM and may feel as if there is no other choice. Our hope is to illuminate this epidemic nationally and internationally as well as design initiatives that motivate those who wish to gain freedom from sexual oppression.

To bring justice for oppressed women who are victimized and voiceless.

Bring awareness to violations against the rights of women and children.

To educate American citizens about female genital mutilation.

To make sure that FGM laws are enforced worldwide.
